Beneath The Skin

Blurb:

Give me a few minutes and I'll charm my way into any woman's heart. Give me a few hours and I'll have her flat on her back, headboard dented, panties on the lampshade, and begging for more - guaranteed.

Until I'm knocked off my feet by Nell, the bangin' art school chick with the killer bod.

No, it isn't some love-at-first-sight kind of thing. In fact, I hate how she looks at me with those sharp, gorgeous eyes and I'm tripping over my feet, my swagger lost.

What is it about this woman that drives me crazy?

She deflects all my advances. She doesn't laugh at my jokes.

She makes me feel like I'm the joke.

Now, she's got her hands on a new art project.

I'd rather she had them on me.

Read My Lips
(A College Obsession Romance)
(new adult romance)

Blurb:
I ran away from the glitz and privilege of my famous New York City family to this small-town Texas college to find myself. I didn't expect to find him...
...the muscular, tatted bad-boy who would soon become my obsession.
He was broken, lost, and voiceless ... just like me.
His eyes smoldered me with one look.
His touch awakened the woman inside me.
And through his lips, his perfect, plush, kissable lips, he drew out the inspiration deep in my soul I did not know was there.
I needed to believe that he could save me. I wanted him to help me find my voice at last ... the voice that would set me apart from my tragically perfect family, the voice that would finally break me free ...
If only he could hear a word of it.
The College Obsession Romance series centers around a group of friends and the relationships they form during their time at a small-town Texas school. They are angsty, steamy new adult novels with HEAs and NO cheating. Although they are obsession-themed romances, there are no stalkers or psychos!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I first realized I wanted to be a storyteller when I wrote my first play that became a full production. I peeked through the curtains and saw how the audience reacted. I felt my work come to life. The transition from that experience to writing and publishing novels has cemented in my mind that this is what I'm meant to do.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?
My toughest criticism was being told - after publishing my very first book - that the character was unlikable, even hateful, and totally unrelatable. It was tough because so much of that character was based directly off of me, so it felt like a very personal criticism. I think my best compliment might have come - unknowingly - from handling that very criticism. I started to embrace the flaws in my characters, the shortcomings, the mistakes we make as human beings. When people fell in love with the flawed heroes and heroines in my later books, I felt like I was witnessing my own growth as a writer firsthand.

Amongst all the competition in the romance genre, why do you think your books are so popular?
To be frank, I think it's because I'm unusual. I've always, no matter what I do, had a unique, quirky edge about my storytelling, characters, and writing. I never follow a formula. My characters will surprise you and do unexpected things. And I believe my playwrighting background gives me a certain uniqueness about dialogue, and a sensitivity to environment and goings-on that gives my stories that little extra dimension.

Give us an interesting fun fact about any of your books.
Read My Lips (A College Obsession Romance) is set in a Theatre department in a small-town Texas college and the love interest is deaf. Fun fact: I went to college here in Texas for Theatre, got my degree, and my language credit was American Sign Language.

Tell us a little about your background!
I was born and raised in Texas. I'm a graduate from the University of Houston with a degree in Theatre and a degree in Psychology. My other passion is in music, as I am a composer and piano player. I toured briefly with two amazing women in an original musical called Country Gravy. I wrote an original musical of my own in college which was produced as part of the Stuart Ostrow Musical Collaboration, and I had two original plays of mine selected and produced in the Edward Albee Playwrighting Workshop, which was headed at the time by the (now late) Pulitzer Prizewinning playwright Lanford Wilson. He was my mentor and pushed me to publish my first book. I miss him.

What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is not finishing a story I've begun. I am determined not to realize this fear, by the way. :)

What secret talents do you have?
I'm a self-taught play-by-ear pianist and composer, so someone can sing any note and I know what it is.

If you could have any accent from anywhere in the world, what would you choose?
English. Goodness, I love English dialects.

Do you ever daydream about people you see at the park? Airport? Train station? Mall? And build romance scenes around them while you daydream?
I daydream *all the time*. And yes, many of them become scenes (both sexy ones and simply inspiring ones) that I put into my books.

Why did Yankee Doodle name the feather in his hat Macaroni?
I'm not sure, but I'm craving macaroni & cheese now.

If you had to choose, which one would it be: intelligent but not that good looking, or good looking but not that intelligent?
This may come as a surprise, but if I could live a second life, I'd choose good-looking and not that intelligent. Though, in honesty, I believe intelligence comes in many, many forms, and even those who "don't seem bright" have intelligence that shows in other ways. I choose this because sometimes, I feel like it's a curse to think so much. I get trapped in my own head.

What is the best book you have read so far?
I really, really enjoyed Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. I'm not sure if that's the best book I've ever read, but damn, I loved it. Also, I really enjoyed the final Harry Potter book The Deathly Hallows - mostly because my reading of it was an experience all on its own that I'll never forget (i.e. staying up until 9 AM the next day to finish it)

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep? Toss and Turn? Try to get up and do something productive?
I watch an episode of Bob Ross. No lie. I watch one almost every day. (For those who somehow don't know who he is, he's the "happy little trees" painter)

When making an entrance into a party, do you make your presence known? Do you slip in and look for someone you know? Do you sneak in quietly and find a safe spot to roost?
If I ever go to a party (I'm lame) I usually slip in quietly and look for something to hold in my hand (probably a soda) and then I hang out somewhere. I might spot the one person in the room who I'm attracted to, then feel sad all night and never approach them. When I get home, I play a video game and try to forget the whole party experience. Did I mention I'm lame?

When do you find yourself singing?
Sometimes I sing while I play the piano. I sing a lot in the car.

If your home were on fire and you did not have to worry about saving any of the five P's (people, pets, photos, papers, prescriptions), what one item would you choose to save?
Does a PIANO count as a P? Just kidding, that wouldn't be practical to move. I'd probably grab my laptop.

If someone asked you to give them a random piece of advice, what would you say?
Whatever you're about to do, you may not do it again for a while. So do it with happiness and do it with style.

Do you write naked?
I have.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Faces. I'm a big face person.
