INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY with Katy Evans

Katy Evans is the author of the The Real Series, Real, Mine, Remy, Rogue & Ripped. She will be releasing the 1st book in her new series Manwhore on March 24th.

Katy chatted with us over e-mail  giving us a little glimpse of what her daily life is like.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I started reading Sweet Valley High books and later migrated to romance, mainly historical romances, which were big at the time. From that point forward I knew that I wanted to be a writer. By 15 I'd already started three books but didn't have the experience yet to finish them, so I kept starting and stopping until I began shorter projects and finally taught myself to finish. :)

How long does it take you to write a book?
It depends on the story and also, on the promoting or publishing issues that need my attention while I'm working on the story. Usually it takes me 3 months, but some books have taken 6, and others (like Real) only 1.

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I write full time, usually 4 - 6 hours a day, but sometimes more.
I start as soon as I wake up, always with a cup of tea or coffee. First I try to go through any emails or pressing things I need to do, then I write for a few hours until the kids get home from school. After they're fed, I usually get back to my book for another few hours. As soon as I start squinting too much and spent a while just rereading what I wrote, I realize I'm probably done for the day and need to recharge my brain. So I close up my laptop, get dinner ready, and continue plotting in my head sometimes so that I'm ready to dive right back into the story the next day.

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
The ideas pop up unexpectedly. Sometimes they're triggered by a song, a book, a thought, or simply real life. Some of the story or character information I incorporate into my stories come either from life experience, or research.

Tell us a little about your background!
I'm Katy Evans, I've been writing for about two decades. Short stories, long stories. I've always written eventhough I haven't always 'published'. It really wasn't until I wrote the book of my heart, REAL, that I had the courage to self-publish and haven't for a moment regretted it.

I'm also a wife, a proud mother of two, a loving dog owner, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. And, of course, a reader! :D

If you could have any accent from anywhere in the world, what would you choose?
I must must must, please, have an English accent. I love the English, the way they walk, and definitely the way they talk. :d

What would you name the autobiography of your life?
Fire.
I have so much fire inside me and so many desires, my husband jokes telling me it's no wonder my fire doesn't eat me up alive. I let my books consume me, my love for him, my love for my children, my love for my readers and my characters, my love for sports, for good food, for anything that I love, all of that stokes my fire like crazy. My autobiography would absolutely involve fiery passions, all around. :)

Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out to be for the best?
Absolutely.
Almost a decade ago, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, an immune disorder, which was affecting my ability to move. I couldn't talk for a few months and I was paralyzed in my right hand. I remember how much writing meant to me then, simply so I could go into a place that felt "happy" even while the turn my life had taken was sad. But then, I started reviewing my medication, decided I didn't want to be helpless and simply "accept" my new circumstance, and I dedicated 3 years of my life to eating right, adding exercise to my life, and simply empowering myself to be the best "me" I could be. I'd never have made such monumental changes if I hadn't been going through something this tough. :)

When do you find yourself singing?
I sing everywhere, even if badly. While driving, in the shower, definitely when I just finished an amazing scene and I'm bubbling with excitement. I sing at parties, at birthdays, and to annoy my husband and children. If I want to sing, I don't care where I am; I SING! :)

What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Their eyes. I don't think there is a more powerful connection than eye contact and there's so much you can tell about a person by looking into their eyes.

LETS TURN THE TABLE

If you could ask the Beantown Bitches Book Page one question...What would it be?Be creative!

Let's talk boys. Compare the boys who have won your hearts to the boys who have lost your hearts. What was the difference?

Elizabeth
The difference for me was the lack of qualities I look for in a man.
Lisa
The difference is I like them rough around the edge but not a total asshole.
Tracey
The difference was I like to be challenged. I cannot be with someone who does what I want them to do! I want to be called out when it is needed because I would sweet talk them into everything I want.

Thanks so much for having me over today, Bitches! :d
